Actress and podcaster Biola Adebayo is facing intense criticism online after featuring convicted actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, on her show Talk To B.
The interview has been trending across social media, mainly because of claims made by Baba Ijesha about the case that led to his conviction.
During the conversation, he described the incident as a “setup” and suggested he was misunderstood. He also claimed that parts of the 2021 incident were linked to “movie preparation,” a statement that has sparked widespread outrage.
He further mentioned his past
聽relationship with actress Iyabo Ojo聽, saying she once trusted him with the care of her children, Festus and Priscilla, when they were younger.
聽Iyabo Ojo has since pushed back strongly against that claim聽, warning him to stop mentioning her children and threatening legal action if he continues.
Online, many users have criticised not just the interview itself but the decision to give him a platform at all. On X, reactions have been largely negative.
One user, tolu_fakoya, wrote: “There is nowhere in the world and no one in their right senses should be granting a child rapist any interview. No one. Biola Adebayo is appalling.”
Another user, Fortwin___, said: “They need to rearrest Baba Ijesha then Biola Adebayo… People like this should not be given any platform at all.”
Oluwatobinihami added: “That man is just too confident because people are still giving him a platform.”
Some reactions focused directly on Biola Adebayo’s decision as a host. TheChibuogwu wrote: “Biola Adebayo really messed up. Ruining her goodwill for some clicks and views?”
Similarly, Thewriterchic said: “Biola Adebayo wants to rewrite history and whitewash a convicted child molester? People like this make us take one step forward, and three steps backward.”
For context,
聽Baba Ijesha was convicted in July 2022聽by a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child. He was
聽sentenced to five years聽and three years imprisonment, to run concurrently.
Following his release and the renewed attention, the Lagos State Ministry of Justice clarified that he was not acquitted.
According to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, while some earlier allegations were set aside on appeal, the conviction and sentence tied to the 2021 case were upheld.
Under the Lagos State Child Rights Law and the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, the offences remain part of his criminal record.
The situation has reignited conversations about accountability, platforming, and the responsibility of media figures in shaping public narratives around sensitive issues.
