N igerian singer Busola ‘Eleyele’ Oke has addressed the “online harassment” she has experienced since returning to the music industry. In a recent post on her
聽Instagram story聽, Oke appealed to her critics, asking for some peace of mind. The singer, famed for her hit track ‘Eleyele,’ lamented the ridicule over her vocal abilities and the perception that her music no longer fits the contemporary sound.
“What do people really want from me? I do not know. I do not really know. What is it? If I do this, you will complain. If I do the other, you would still complain,” she wrote.
She added, “Please, have I offended you before? Or there is life I have lived before that we had an encounter. If I say you would ask, is that the song my mates are singing. Can’t you see what your mates are singing? If I sing the one you want, you would still say am I not older than that? What do I do to satisfy you? If I do not talk, you would say I am silent. If I talk, would you say I am talking too much? Leave me alone.”
In February, Oke had
sharedher struggles with financial hardship and homelessness while trying to sustain her music career. Shortly after her plea, Elijah Ayodele, founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Lagos,
offeredto donate N1 million to support her.
