MNollywood actor, Aremu Afolayan, has issued a public apology to Nigerians following backlash over his recent comments, while also announcing his withdrawal from political discourse.

In an emotional statement, Afolayan said he had come under intense criticism and clarified that his remarks were misunderstood.

“To all Nigerians, please forgive me. I’m very sorry. The curses you guys are raining on me is too much. I didn’t take money from anyone,” he said.

The actor stressed that he acknowledges the security challenges facing the country, noting that he never intended to deny the reality of insecurity.

“It’s obvious that there’s insecurity and the government isn’t doing anything; what I was trying to say is don’t answer anyone who is saying there’s no insecurity,” he explained.

Afolayan further revealed a personal experience, stating that his best friend’s mother had been kidnapped and ransom was paid for her release.

“My best friend’s mother was kidnapped and we paid ransom; how would I say there’s no insecurity?” he added.

He concluded by distancing himself from political matters going forward.“I’m withdrawing myself from anything that has to do with politics,” he said.
