President Bola Tinubu has publicly disclosed his shock and distress upon discovering a covert political coalition that has been plotting to unseat him for the past eighteen months.
According to a reliable source within the Presidency who spoke to NN News Media, Tinubu is alarmed by the emergence of a powerful opposition coalition, allegedly spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra Governor Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and others.
The President is said to have been taken aback after learning that the coalition had been operating discreetly for over 18 months, strategically planning to unite key political blocs across the country in a bid to unseat him.
Tinubu feels betrayed,” the source said. “He believes this coalition has been working underground without detection, and now their influence is becoming evident through mass defections and political realignments especially in the Southern and northern PDP, LP and APC strongholds.
Insiders reveal that Tinubu is especially concerned about the wave of defects and several governors and political heavyweights who are allegedly working secretly with the coalition.
Tinubu reportedly told close aides that if he fails to win re-election in 2027, Nigerians should “hold Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, and Amaechi responsible,” accusing them of betraying national unity for personal political gain.
Meanwhile, Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, had dismissed the coalition as a group driven by personal vendettas and frustration, labeling them “sore losers” and “Tinubu haters” whose agenda is to derail the president’s governance efforts. Despite this, the opposition coalition remains steadfast, united under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with plans to finalize their strategy and leadership, reportedly appointing former Senate President David Mark as interim chairman.
The coalition leaders have publicly criticized Tinubu’s administration for worsening insecurity, poverty, and hunger in Nigeria, accusing it of weaponizing poverty as a political tool to maintain control. Atiku Abubakar, speaking at a recent public lecture, emphasized the coalition’s commitment to ending what he described as state-sanctioned poverty and political manipulation under Tinubu’s government.
Political analysts note that this coalition represents a significant challenge to Tinubu’s presidency, especially given the complex dynamics within the APC and the opposition’s growing momentum. While some ruling party figures dismiss the coalition’s chances as futile, others warn that defections and internal party struggles could undermine Tinubu’s 2027 campaign.
As the 2027 election approaches, the political landscape in Nigeria remains highly volatile, with President Tinubu’s administration preparing to confront a united opposition determined to change the country’s leadership.
