Former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Lai Mohammed, has sounded a serious warning about what he described as a rising Hausa insurgency in northern Nigeria.
聽Watch full report聽According To NewsVista Reporter, Mohammed spoke during an interview with SPLASHFM1055 where he expressed concern that the issue is not getting enough public attention despite its dangerous potential. He questioned whether powerful interests could be funding the movement and warned that it is different from known Fulani related groups.
He explained that the insurgency appears to be asserting a separate Hausa identity and could threaten long standing historical structures in the region, including the influence of the Sokoto Caliphate.
Mohammed recalled that the success of the early nineteenth century Jihad was tied to the control and subjugation of Hausa land and identity. He warned that the current trend could reopen old fault lines if ignored.
He urged Nigerians to pay closer attention before the situation escalates.
