Why I Don’t Mention Jesus in My Songs – Sola Allyson Opens Up

Veteran Nigerian singer SolaAllysonhas finallyaddressedthe long-standing question from fans and critics: why the name “Jesus” is conspicuously absent from her deeply spiritual music.

In acandidinterview with Oyinmomo TV uploaded on YouTube on Friday, the Eji Owuro crooner clarified her stance once and for all.

“I have never called myself a gospelartiste. My name is Sola Allyson — I am a singer,” she stated firmly.

According to her, the “gospel” label was placed on her by listeners because of the calm, reflective, and soul-stirring nature of her songs, but she has consciously distanced herself from that categorisation.

“I sing from my heart, from my personal experiences and convictions. I don’t sing to belong to any religious group or to meet people’s expectations,” she explained.

On why she deliberately avoids mentioning the name of Jesus in her lyrics, Allyson said:

“Jesus Himself never said we should be shouting His name everywhere or using His name for PR and marketing. My music is not about name-dropping to prove spirituality.

“I believe God can use my voice and my songs to touch lives without me having to repeatedly mention any particular name. The message is in the truth, the peace, the wisdom, and the guidance the songs carry.”

She emphasised that her goal has always been to inspire inner reflection, personal growth, and a genuine turning to God — in whatever way each listener understands the Divine.

“My songs are for everybody —Christians, Muslims, traditional believers, free-thinkers — because life’s truths are universal. As long as the song brings you peace, makes you think deeply, and draws you closer to light and goodness, my assignment is done.”

Sola Allyson maintained that staying authentic has kept her music timeless and borderless, reaching hearts across religious and cultural lines without compromising her truth.
