President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni employs a little over 90 cooks in State House. The list of President Museveni’s official cooks also shows what these kitchen staff earn every month.The records obtained byThe Pearl Timesindicate that the kitchen staff go by job titles like catering officers, executive chef, pastry chefs, chef and cooks.
Opposition MPs led by Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda say the list of Museveni’s cooks reveals that there is “too much eating and resting.”
Ssemujju and colleagues argue that “even a bigger hotel such as Sheraton or Serena doesn’t have these numbers” of cooks and chef, and that what is happening is “simply opulence.”
They wondered how many times President Museveni eats in a day to require 90 cooks.
“There is no State House in the world that is as luxurious as ours,” Ssemujju and fellow opposition colleagues further noted.
They also took issue with the foods being budgeted for, which include pilau, karo, kashera, chapatti, and chips, among others. They argued that there is no reason someone should be budgeting for such foods “when there are no nurses in Mulago.”
