Kenya’s rhino population grows by nearly 9pc

Kenya’s rhino population has risen by nearly nine per cent in a single year, from 2,102 in 2024 to 2,282 in 2025, adding 180 rhinos to the country’s population.

This is according to the Kenya Wildlife Service, which says the growth signals progress in efforts to protect endangered species, with conservation teams strengthening monitoring to keep pace with the rising numbers.

At the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, 24 rhinos have been ear notched this year, allowing each animal to be individually identified and closely tracked.
