In an unprecedented escalation that reveals the regime's brutal methods in the face of political dissent, three bodyguards of former ministers Bello Bouba Maïgari and Nana Aboubakar are reportedly being held and tortured at the Secrétariat d'État à la Défense (SED). Ahmadou Roufaï, Zakari Yaou and Betoudji Denis, officers of the Gendarmerie nationale, are paying a heavy price for their alleged failure to inform their superiors of the "political maneuvers" of their charges. According to our sources, a service note providing for their assignment to conflict zones in the South-West has even been signed, raising concerns about their future safety. A damning testimony to the authoritarian excesses and human rights violations in the management of political crises in Cameroon.
The situation is extremely serious. The Biya-RDPC regime seems to be in a dark rage. It is struggling to digest the resignation of the president of the UNDP, Bello Bouba Maïgari, and of Nana Aboubakar, respectively former Minister of Tourism and Leisure, and Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Environment.
In retaliation, the regime is targeting their bodyguards, whom it accuses of not informing their superiors of the political maneuvers underway.
Thus, Ahmadou Roufaï and Zakari Yaou, bodyguards of Bello Bouba Maïgari, as well as Betoudji Denis, bodyguard of Nana Aboubakar, have been abducted since last Monday. They were taken to the SED where they are subjected to inhuman physical abuse. They are accused of not having passed on information about the political dealings of their bosses.
As we write these lines, these three agents are still being held and subjected to torture at the SED.
At the same time, while their families are living in anguish, a service note has been signed to assign them to remote areas of the South-West. A suspicious maneuver, which according to some indiscretions, aims to eliminate them discreetly by blaming the Ambazonian separatists.
The hour is grave. What is at stake here goes beyond political squabbles: it is a blatant attack on human rights. Who will be next?
