GUIDE: How to pay for electricity under new UEDCL ‘Light Pay’ system

Kampala, Uganda:-The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) on Monday officially launched its new “Light Pay” system, replacing the long-standing “Yaka” under Umeme. This transition follows the conclusion of Umeme’s 20-year concession, with UEDCL now fully in charge of electricity distribution across the country.

The “Light” system, part of a broader effort to streamline and enhance electricity service delivery, is poised to make the process more efficient and user-friendly as compared to the previous system of YAKA.

Under the new system, consumers can continue purchasing electricity units using MTN, Airtel, and various FINTECH platforms, with all transactions now directed through the “Light” system.
