Watch Moment "Prayer Of The Faithful' Was Said In Igbo Language At Pope's Christmas Vigil Mass

A historic moment of cultural recognition took place at the Vatican on December 24, as the Igbo language was prominently featured during the Christmas Vigil Mass.

During the Prayer of the Faithful at St. Peter’s Basilica, celebrated by Pope Leo XIV, one of the intentions was read in Igbo, honoring the contributions of Igbo Catholics to the global Church. The inclusion of the language underscored the diversity of the Catholic faithful and reinforced the Church’s commitment to universality during the festive season.

Adding to the cultural celebration, an Igbo couple took part in the Eucharistic Procession, joining other congregants to present the offertory gifts to the Pope during the Mass.

The recognition of Igbo language and traditions at such a significant event highlights the Vatican’s ongoing efforts to celebrate the richness of different cultures within the global Catholic community.
